The community has given us feedback regarding the remastered art we’ve been posting for the past several months and there’s a clear consensus: pinups are fine, but comics are what supporters really want.
This is not surprising since there are 8 missing Ranmabooks comics in our galleries: The Black Rose of Furinkan Parts 1 & 2, Cheating Hearts, Herb Breaks Through, Learning the Hard Way, My Girlfriend’s Girlfriends, The Ranma Christmas Story, Rivals, and The Kuno Invasion. Some of these projects have been completed on the RHB Patreon- although not yet posted to Ranmabooks.com and need retagging- while others remain pending.
After careful consideration, we’ve decided to pause remastering pinups in favor of remastering our comic gallery. Roughly every 2 weeks there shall be a post featuring a missing comic. Please consult the Calendar (in the menu) for the current estimated release dates.
As for comics already posted, we are aware that many are a blurry mess. This is a result of our migration from static pages to WordPress in 2020. These galleries were not built by me (Deep Star), but rather our WordPress developer who ASSURED US that the jpeg compression would not be noticeable (it was) and the compression necessary to greatly speed up gallery performance (we found a better way). While we were happy with the ability for our community to comment and rate art directly on the website, the tradeoff was a substantial visual quality loss while browsing on the site, requiring a “full quality download button” on each image page as a workaround. This state of our galleries was unacceptable to our team, yet we did not have the manpower at the time of WordPress launch to fix our entire website which contains many thousands of images. Grudgingly, we released new art and waited for an opportunity. Then the Pandemic happened. And what was supposed to be ‘soon’ became ‘someday’. 😞
Someday is today. Now that we are caught up on Fan Requests, team members have the opportunity to put energy into remaking the galleries. Quietly many Ranmabooks comics have been rebuilt with lossless quality images. All Comic Lord projects have been updated, while roughly half the ‘Completed Projects’ galleries are finished. The other half will be done by the end of May. Which means by June 2023, all currently posted comics will finally be viewed on Ranmabooks in the highest quality we can provide based on the original masters. And most importantly, by the end of 2023 all Ranmabooks comics ever made will be posted and available to read in our galleries.
Those of you who’ve been with us through thick and thin, feast and famine, know this: the time of famine is over. We’re back. Our focus on comics is back. And our commitment to quality will be unwavering. On behalf of our team, we thank you in words, but the best way for us to show appreciation is to SHOW YOU THE COMICS!
